About the Job

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Assistant (Histology)

Responsible for: Histology Lab Manager

Accountable for: Director of Laboratory Operations

Location: Based at 24-32 Stephenson Way

Hours: 37.5 hours a week, working one Saturday a week and an alternate day off a week.

Job Summary: 

Assist all Histology staff and assist in the smooth running of the laboratory, particularly with reference to the cut-up room Key Responsibilities (under the supervision of the Lead MLA and BMS) Sorting and booking samples into the cut-up Assist in cut-ups where required Reagent changes and daily maintenance of processors and embedding machines Preparing solutions as required Preparing stock transport boxes for delivery Carrying out chuck-outs Ensuring the cut-up room is neat Undertake any other duties as deemed necessary for the department Committing to the main laboratory on a regular basis and assisting with routine duties Assisting with NHS work if required Other Duties: Assisting couriers if required Attending annual Joint Staff Review Requirements Essential Desirable Biomedical Science related degree Ability to manage own time and tasks Ability to learn and apply techniques successfully. Ability to work closely and engage with others

Attention to detail: 

I.T. Basic user knowledge of systems

Experience: 

Experience of laboratory information systems

Experience in laboratory work

Experience in a histology setting

Knowledge

Ability to follow company procedure

Other requirements

Ability to work one Saturday a month with an alternate day off per week
